Archos planning to launch high-end tablets at IFA later this summer?

Archos planning to launch high-end tablets at IFA later this summer?
Over the years we've certainly seen that Archos can do some decent things on limited hardware, but of course the real money is to be found on the higher end, where your iPads and your Xooms play. According to tabletblog.de, Archos has stated intent to announce two new tablets at IFA later this year, fitting into the 7- and 10-inch domains like the older (and lower-rent) 70 and 101 Internet Tablets above. Supposedly the company doesn't know what hardware either will be running, only that they'll be top-shelf components integrated using posh design. Surely that'll mean a posh price, too.

Google Responds To Android Malware, Will Fix Infected Devices And ?Remote Kill? Malicious Apps

On March 1, news broke that dozens of malicious applications had made their way to Android Market, each infected with a rootkit that could grant hackers deep access to Android devices that installed them. Google removed the malicious applications from Android Market within a few minutes of being notified, but has otherwise remained silent on the situation. Until now (at 10PM on a Saturday...) Google has now confirmed that 58 malicious applications were uploaded to Android Market, and that they were downloaded onto around 260,000 devices before Google removed the apps Tuesday evening. That number sounds alarmingly high, but Google believes that only device-specific information, namely the phone's IMEI number, was compromised ? and that no personal data or account information was ever transferred. Given that these apps were getting root access, this could have been a lot worse. Now the cleanup begins.

CBS & Turner Sports are streaming all the March Madness games to PCs, iPhones & iPads for free

Every year CBS has enhanced its March Madness On Demand experience, from HD VOD on cable boxes to HD streaming on PCs before adding PiP and paid mobile access last year. For 2011, a new deal has brought in Turner Sports to not only provide enough channels to air all the games in high definition (we figure you'll find CBS, TNT and TBS on the channel guide with no problem, but with some of the games diverted to lesser known TruTV HD check the HDSportsGuide link below to see if it's in your area yet) but also expand the streaming experience by promising higher quality video, personalized channel lineup and social tie ins. If you're on the go, the mobile client for iOS devices (sorry, no Android or other mobile OSes) is free this year so you can keep that fiver in your pocket this time. There's another pic of the iPad client, a video trailer and all sorts of details waiting after the break, so click through to find out more or just wait for the free apps to hit iTunes March 10th.

Google releases Android anti-fragmentation kit

android fragmented fragmentationAndroid fragmentation is once again being talked about (was it ever not?), only this time it's because Google has released a new compatibility pack which helps developers combat fragmentation-related issues.

The new static library allows access to the Honeycomb Fragments API -- which lets developers produce resolution independent apps -- on any device running Android 1.6 or better, from diminutive paygo phones to 10.1" tablets.

Interested developers can grab Android Compatibility Pack via the SDK Updater.

WordPress 3.1 released, features massive writing workflow and admin overhauls

WordPress 3.1 releasedWith over 2,000 code commits and 820 bug and feature fixes, WordPress 3.1 has been released. You can download the new version in its entirety, or simply log into your WordPress.org installation and update via the Dashboard.

The most notable new new change is a massively overhauled writing interface, which should make the entire publishing process both more streamlined and less intimidating for new users. Linking back to old posts and pages is now a lot easier, too (just click a button and start searching), and lots of rarely-used blocks have now been hidden by default (they can be re-enabled in Screen Options).

There's a new Admin Bar, which appears at the top of every page and makes moving around your blog's back end a whole lot easier. For power users and theme makers, there are now Post Formats, which significantly increase the flexibility of WordPress layouts.

For a complete list of the changes and new features, check the WordPress 3.1 Codex page.
