Westone ES5 custom in-ear monitors review

If you're into high-end audio gear and especially custom solutions, you've probably heard of a company called Westone. In operation since 1959, the firm has decades of experience crafting in-ear headphones and audio gear, and it doesn't look like they're stopping any time soon. We had a chance to get our ears molded back at CES so we could check out the company's top-of-the-line model, the ES5, and now we've had some proper time to put them through the paces and see whether they live up to the hype -- head past the break for the nitty gritty.

SiriusXM planning Android devices

Teleca, which supplies integrated software solutions for consumer electronics, as well as the automotive and mobile industries, has announced it is developing an embedded solution to use Android in future SiriusXM satellite radio devices. The solution will include all vehicle, portable and home products.

“SiriusXM continues to develop innovative products that allow our subscribers to experience the best audio entertainment available,” said Sean Gibbons, vice president of product marketing for SiriusXM’s aftermarket division. “We were impressed with Teleca’s experience with the Android Operating System and strong background in radio interface integration. Teleca is working with us to develop a complete platform strategy for delivering our unique and compelling programming to consumers.”

The solution will be on display next week at Mobile World Conference, which we will be at bringing you all of the exciting news. Full press release after the break.

Mozilla's Do Not Track header appears in nightly Firefox builds, does nothing

If you're into pointless displays of solidarity, the latest nightly builds of Firefox 4 beta 11 now include the option of turning on the Do Not Track (DNT) header. With Google's launch of its Do Not Track extension last week, this now means that we're only waiting on IE9's Tracking Protection Lists.

While this change to Firefox successfully sends the DNT HTTP header with every request, it's up to websites and advertising companies to respond to the header in a suitable fashion -- i.e. by not sending out the normal tracking cookies. There are currently no known sites that acknowledge the new header.

Still, if you want to turn it on -- beardies unite!! -- you can find the option under Tools > Options > Advanced, in the General tab. If enough Firefox users start using the DNT header it will not go unnoticed! We can start a movement! Liberte! Egalite! DNT!

Like fashion. Wheretoget.it is a brand new platform launched last week that is essentially Quora for shoppers. And yes, just as the URL indicates, the site seeks to respond to one very simple question: where to get it? You don't have to be a fashion expert to appreciate the concept. I'm sure many of us have been in a situation where we've seen someone with a nice bag, tie, scarf, etc. and would like to know where to get it. But since it can be hard to approach a random person in the street (or better yet, a photo in a magazine or on a blog), we never find out where to get the item. With Wheretoget.it, users can upload a photo of the item to the platform and let the site's community do the work.

How to make only part of a cell bold in Microsoft Excel

This week's series of tips will be focusing on handy little features for Microsoft Excel and Word. To see the previous tips, check our Tips index.

By default, when you click a cell in Excel and hit Ctrl+B or the B button on the toolbar, the entire text of the cell becomes bold. However, sometimes you may want to make just part of the text bold, and not the whole thing.

To do this, simply start editing the cell by hitting F2. Select the text you'd like to make bold, and hit Ctrl+B. This will make only this part of the cell bold.

You can use this same technique to color specific words in the cell: Select one or two words while editing a cell, and use the Font Color button to change their color.
